Customers praised this titanium track sprocket as "best on the market" with exceptional quality, lightweight design, and quiet performance. They seem ok, functionally. No obvious way to tell if they're any better than the cheaper Elite cogs.
Durability: the finish chipped off one of mine in a couple places that look like a possible manufacturing defect (this stuff is supposed to be super hard, sprinting should not damage it). But Velobike will not warranty it because it's one year old (despite having less than 20 miles) 🤷.
So: it costs more, it's not durable, and it has no real warranty to speak of.
Hi Conrad, thanks for the feedback. From the images, this appears to be one of the Narrow 11/128' sprockets? These require a very accurately aligned chainline and less chain slack than a conventional 1/8' sprocket. Because the teeth are narrower, there’s less ramping surface available to guide the chain onto the tooth. If the chainline is slightly misaligned, or the chain has excessive slack, the side plate can strike the edge of the tooth rather than guiding it in cleanly cleanly. The damage shown in the photos looks consistent with this type of impact.
The hard surface coating is wear-resistant, but hardness and impact toughness aren’t the same thing. Hard coatings are more likely to chip, rather than deform as a softer material would. This appears to be impact damage rather than a manufacturing defect with the coating itself.
The sprocket is outside our warranty period and i don't believe it is a manufacturing issue, so we’re unable to replace it as a warranty claim. However, given how little use it has had, I’m happy to provide store credit equal to its original value as a goodwill resolution.
